SYCAMORE – Morris’ Cody Baldridge continued his quest for a third straight appearance in a state championship after winning the title at 182 to improve to 38-0 on the season. In the finals, Baldridge, the two-time defending state runner-up, won by technical fall over Freeport’s Matthew Chavers.
"I went out there and wrestled real well," Baldridge said. "I went on the attack the whole time and just made sure it was attack, attack, attack. I felt great.
"I feel like my record is just a record. When you get down there [to Champaign] it's a whole different ballgame. I don't think it matters really matter when you get down there. it's just who shows up and is ready to wrestle at that point."
1A Olympia Sectional: Coal City’s Alex Friddle (120) and Daniel Jezik (160) captured titles, while while teammate Ryan Wasielewski (145) was third and Connor Huston (113) took fourth. Friddle recorded a fall in 5:21 over McNamara’s Caleb Magruder at 120 and Daniel Jezik was a 7-5 winner over Warsaw’s Chase Hartweg in the 160 title match. Falling in the consolation semifinals were Coal City’s Evan Rivera (106) and TJ Jezik (152),
1A Oregon Sectional: Seneca’s Jackson Beene (145) and Mason Dooley (170) both lost matches in the consolation semifinals to come up a win shy of state trips.
