MAZON – A crash involving a sport utility vehicle and farm equipment late Tuesday morning on Route 47 between Mazon and the Gardner Blacktop resulted in the driver of a Ford Expedition being airlifted from the scene.
Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan said his office received the call for an accident on Route 47 at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday. Both vehicles were northbound on Route 47, he said, and the sprayer was turning into a field when the crash occured
"The driver of the Ford Expedition was in the process of passing and didn't realize the sprayer was turning," Callahan said.
The Expedition was pinned under the sprayer for some time, he said, as first responders on the scene had to wait for tow truck to help lift the sprayer from the SUV. The driver needed to be extracted from the vehicle.
The driver was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Callahan said.
Traffic on Route 47 was shut down both ways shortly after the accident, sheriff's deputies telling vehicles to turn around because the scene would be closed off for several hours.
Crews were still working o the scene at 3 p.m., Callahan said.
