Meet the 2018 Morris Herald-News All-Area Baseball Team:

FIRST TEAM

Danny Borgstrom, senior, shortstop/pitcher, Morris: Three-year varsity starter... Hit .392 with .508 on-base percentage... Had 11 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, team-high
31 RBIs and 24 runs... Went 2-1 on the mound with 2.04 ERA and struck out
24 in 24 innings... All-Northern Illinois Big 12 East selection... Will play at Evansville University.

Keegan Gagliardo, junior, pitcher/outfielder, Coal City: All-Interstate Eight selection... Went 8-1 with team-leading 1.32 ERA... Struck out 68 and walked 10 in 581⁄3 innings... Threw no-hitter against Prairie Central... Hit .356 with 7 2B, 4 3B, 1 HR and 24 RBIs... Coach Greg Wills: “Keegan led our team in ERA. He also had a 1.000 fielding percentage as a center fielder.”

Blake Harseim, senior, shortstop/pitcher, Coal City: All-Interstate Eight selection... Hit team-leading .372 with 9 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR and 33 RBis... Went 6-0 on the mound with 1.21 ERA... Struck out 59 in 461⁄3 innings... Will play for Heartland Community College... Coach Greg Wills: “Blake was our leading hitter and one of our top arms. He also made only seven errors playing shortstop, a position that handles the ball frequently.”

Payton Hutchings, sophomore, pitcher/outfielder, Coal City: 2018 Morris Herald-News Player of the Year... All-Interstate Eight Conference selection... Went 8-2 with 1.40 ERA... In 65 innings, struck out 128 and walked 17... Pitched a perfect game with 21 strikeouts vs. Beecher. Also had 16-strikeout no-hitter vs. Manteno... Hit .347 with 12 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 18 RBIs and 38 R... Coach Greg Wills: “Payton was pitcher of the year in the I-8. 128 strikeouts in 65 innings is impressive. He was also our leadoff hitter and was among the team leaders in many offensive categories.”

Dawson Moore, senior, pitcher, Morris: All-Northern Illinois Big 12 East selection... Went 7-3 with 2.04 ERA... In 581⁄3 innings, struck out 68 and walked 17.

Hayden Laczynski, senior, shortstop, Minooka: Four-year varsity starter... Hit .373 with .490 on-base percentage... Had 6 2B,
4 HR, 23 RBI... All-Southwest Prairie Conference selection... Will play at Western Illinois University.

Joey Morales, senior, pitcher/infielder, Gardner-South Wilmington: All-River Valley Conference... Team MVP... Hit .452 with 6 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR and 23 RBIs... Went 5-3 on the mound with 1.51 ERA. Struck out 43 in 37 innings... Coach Allan Wills: “Joey is a solid all-around baseball player. He has a nice combination of power and speed and can play just about any position. His production, both at the plate and on the mound, was spectacular.”

Jacob Overbeck, junior, pitcher/infielder, Morris: Hit .318 with 4 2B, 17 R and 18 RBIs... On the mound, went 5-4 with 3.69 ERA and struck out 58 in 55 innings.

Austin Pullara, sophomore, catcher, Coal City: Hit .322 with 10 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 28 RBIs and 38 R... Coach Greg Wills: “Austin came to the varsity because we needed a catcher. It’s not his natural position, but he handled a very talented pitching staff and became a power bat in the middle of our lineup.”

Uriah Tobolsky, senior, catcher, Seneca: Hit 321 with 21 runs, 8 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, and 18 RBIs... Team MVP... All-Interstate Eight Conference... Coach Kirk Houchin: “Uriah had an excellent season after sitting out his junior year with arm surgery. Uriah led the team in extra-base hits and played first base and catcher and did both very well. He hopes to continue his baseball career at Lewis University in the fall.”

SECOND TEAM

Cody Altman, senior, outfielder, Seneca: Hit .347 with 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR... Won team’s Most Improved Player award and played on I-8 All-Star Team.

Kam Dransfeldt, senior, catcher, Morris: Three-year varsity starter... Hit .300 with 1 2B, 1 HR and 8 RBIs in 12 games before shoulder surgery ended his season... Will play at University of Wisconsin-Osh Kosh.

Luke Faifer, senior, outfielder/catcher, Minooka: Hit .341 with 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR and 17 RBIs.

Sam Grushkin, junior, pitcher/shortstop, Seneca: Hit .364 with 6 2B, 1 3B and scored 19 runs... Won team’s Ace Award and Batting Champ award... Went 2-3 with 3.47 ERA. Struck out 52 in 381⁄3 innings.

Seth Gutknecht, senior, pitcher/outfielder, Minooka: Hit .358 with 5 2B, 3 HR, 18 RBIs and 29 R... Went 2-3 with 3.78 ERA on the mound with 51 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings... Will play at Aurora University.

Zach Lauras, senior, outfielder, Minooka: Hit .380 with 2 2B, 1 3B and 13 RBIs... Will play at Joliet Junior College.

Cheorkee Lebeau, senior, second base, Minooka: Hit .319 with 6 2B, 3 HR and 18 RBIs... Will play at Oakland University.

Patrick McCabe, junior, catcher, Morris: Hit .260 with 3 2B and 14 RBIs... Caught nearly every game... Ranked third on team with 26 hits.

Sean Micetich, senior, infielder, Coal City: Hit .313 with 6 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR and 20 RBIs.

Payton Voitik, senior, outfielder, Morris: Three-year varsity starter... Hit .316 with 2 2B, 1 3B and 15 RBIs... Will play football at Valparaiso University.

Dakota Watson, senior, infielder/catcher/pitcher, Gardner-South Wilmington: Hit .405 with 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR and 17 RBIs... Struck out 20 in 15 innings on the mound.

Matt Wepprecht, senior, first base, Gardner-South Wilmington: Hit .429 with 6 2B, 2 HR and 20 RBIs... Had 2.69 ERA on the mound, striking out 10 in 13 innings.

Beau Wills, senior, infielder/pitcher, Coal City: Hit .302 with 2 2B and 11 RBIs... Had game-winning hit in regional title game... Went 5-1 with 1.30 ERA on the mound. Struck out 53 in 372⁄3 innings... Will play at Concordia University.
