Flare at Lyondell no cause for concern

MORRIS – LyondellBasell is saying the larger than normal flare at their Morris plant is of no cause for concern to the community.

At around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, the site experienced an operational issue resulting in flaring at the site.

"The plant is stable, and no injuries are being reported," the company said in a statement. "A bright orange flame will be visible while we utilize this flare, and nearby residents and businesses may also hear a rumbling noise. Over the next couple of days, we will be working on equipment that may result in sporadic flaring. We are working to eliminate the flaring as soon as possible."

The flares are used to burn of excess material that can't be used or recycled and are a safety feature.
