Morris Community High School HEAL club meets leaders

Students learn of importance of Latino voice in government

On Friday, Nov. 22, the executive board members of Morris Community High School’s newly formed Latino leadership club, Helping Empower American Latinos (HEAL), attended the 17th Annual Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation Conference in Oakbrook.

MCHS students learned about their civic responsibilities and the importance of the Latino voice in government.

At the event, students got a chance to meet with Latino leaders to discuss important issues, including one on one time with Congressman Jesús “Chuy” Garcia.

Students attending were Myra Olivares, Andrea Barrón, Izak Provance, and Enrique González.

Barrón and González were also interviewed on the importance of the Latino voice in the census and voting.
