5 Tips for a Successful Bathroom Remodel

SPONSORED

One great way to add value to your home is to update a bathroom. Just like with a kitchen remodel, you'll want assistance with the planning and the execution of your bathroom project. Your designer will be with you through the entire process.

1. Consider using "back saver" and "comfort" height cabinets and toilets. "A back saver height cabinet brings the countertop up to 36", the same as a kitchen countertop," said Steve Meyer, owner of Steve's Flooring & Design. "Comfort height toilets are 3-4" higher than the standard counterparts, making them more comfortable to use."

2. Don't make the toilet the first thing you see when you open the door. "Consider moving the toilet behind a partial height wall, or at the end of the vanity to conceal at least part of it," added Meyer. "It offers more privacy, especially if you share the bathroom with another family member."

3. Bathroom floors can be created with ceramic or porcelain tiles, or with waterproof luxury vinyl tiles and planks. "Hundreds of beautiful tile choices are available for bathroom and shower walls," said Meyer. "The large variety of sizes and colors coordinate well with colorful accents of glass and stone."

4. If you're considering removing a tub, Meyer recommends keeping at least one in the house for resale purposes. "If another bathroom has a tub, the homeowner can have a large tiled shower with a bench seat, if that would serve them better," he said. "We encourage clients to not be afraid to reorganize a bathroom to make it more functional."

5. Don't let a design trend push you in a direction that isn't best for your space and individual needs. "Pinterest and HGTV have great ideas, but they might not be the best for you," said Meyer. "A designer can help you make appropriate choices to enhance your space. Let us put together a beautiful bathroom for you!"
