A kitchen remodel can be a fun project, but it's by no means a small one. A kitchen is used for many things; it's a place to store foods and cooking utensils, it provides various appliances for preparing foods and drinks, and it's a popular gathering place for family members and friends. If you're planning a kitchen remodel, here are 3 things to consider:
1. "I encourage our clients to think about how they can make their kitchen function more efficiently to make their lives easier," explained Steve Meyer, owner of Steve's Flooring and Design. "We discuss how the space can be rearranged, including altering the placement of appliances. Doors, walls, and windows can sometimes be moved to improve the work triangle. Our designers will discuss what the client likes and doesn't like about their current kitchen situation so solutions can be developed to fit the client's needs."
2. Use all the available space. "It's important to think vertically," added Meyer. "Our designers can remove the old soffit and run cabinets to the ceiling to make the kitchen appear more spacious. Varying the heights of the cabinets can create visual interest." Proportion and scale should be taken into account when replacing cabinetry and other major kitchen components.
3. Consider your family's lifestyle. While Pinterest has beautiful photographs of amazing kitchens, many of those styles might not work for you and your family. "Open shelving, for example, only looks great when it's neat and clean," said Meyer. "It doesn't look nice when the shelves are overcrowded. Many of our clients have busy lifestyles, and they benefit from low maintenance cabinets and countertops." Designers at Steve's Flooring and Design can also show you organizational cabinet accessories and inserts, and other products to make your life easier.
