The Minooka police department is investigating an online threat allegedly made toward students at Minooka Junior High School over the holiday weekend.
On Friday, MJHS staff members and concerned community members reached out to the MJHS Administrative Team regarding a comment made by an MJHS student online which apparently included a statement regarding school violence, according to the MJHS Facebook page.
"MJHS Administration immediately contacted the Minooka Police Department and supplied them with the necessary information to begin investigating the post. At this time, we are relying on the local authorities to investigate this matter, and we have the utmost confidence in them as they do so," the post states.
School officials went on to say that there will be added security around the school on Monday morning.
"Please know that we fully appreciate and take seriously the responsibility of caring for your children all day, every day when you send them to MJHS. To ease minds and reassure both students and families of the safe learning environment at MJHS, we will ask the Minooka Police Department to have a visible presence on our Campus Monday morning when we return to school from the Holiday Break," the post continues. "It goes without saying that the MJHS Administration is greatly appreciative for the consistent cooperation and efforts of the Minooka Law Enforcement, and as always, we strive to maintain open communication with our families when situations such as this arise."
