Morris Hospital has opened the doors at its newest satellite facility in Diamond.
The new Diamond-Coal City Campus opened for patients on Tuesday. Hospital officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday at the site along Route 113 in Diamond, welcoming members of the public for tours of the new 13,400-square-foot facility.
Morris Hospital President and CEO Mark Stedham welcomed hospital system staff, members of the Grundy Area Chamber of Commerce, local dignitaries and members of the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the facility on Monday.
"We really appreciate the support of the communities here," Stedham said. "We're very pleased and honored to be a part of the communities in a bigger way than we have been ever before."
Diamond Mayor Terry Kernc and Coal City Mayor Terry Halliday were also in attendance to recognize the impact the new site will have for folks who live along the Route 113 corridor.
"It's been 10 years in the making from the first time I begged for a facility," Kernc said. "This has exceeded our expectations. Thank you for including us in your plans for the future."
"This is really a great thing," Halliday said. "This addition of this campus will clearly provide the residents of Diamond and Coal City and really the surrounding area with quality health care and a lot of services. ... Clearly a facility of this nature, with the services offered, improves not only the options but the convenience of healthcare for our residents."
Grundy County Chamber of Commerce and Inudstry President and CEO Christina Van Yperen thanked the hospital for adding additional services for the people of Grundy County.
"I also want to say a thank you to Morris Hospital and all their partners and all their staff for not only the great quality of care that they provide here and around Grundy County, but also for the very large investment that they continue to have here," Van Yperen said. "As our communities grow, so does Morris Hospital to keep up with the need."
The new Diamond-Coal City facility includes a 7 day a week walk-in convenient care center, where patients can see a nurse practitioner for mild illness or injury.
The facility also includes X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, bone density, CT scans, laboratory services and physician services.
The site also will provide physical and occupational therapy.
The Morris Hospital Diamond-Coal City Campus is located at 1450 E. Division St. / Route 113 in Diamond. Convenient care is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for patients ages 12 months and older.
In addition to the new campus, Morris Hospital also is expected to open its new emergency department at the hospital's main campus in Morris this month.
